Dictatorship has plagued the Southeast Asian nation of Burma, which is also known as Myanmar, for decades. In February 2021, the military staged a coup, alleging voter fraud in the 2020 election that saw a landslide victory for the NLD. The coup led to widespread protests and a brutal crackdown by the military, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of civilians. The tragedy of dictators in Burma/Myanmar is a stark reminder of the human rights abuses and suffering inflicted by authoritarian regimes.
